How tutoring works

From the first call to the first plan, in about two weeks.

You can stop at the end of any half term, and you’ll always know what your child is working on.

01

Day 1

Free consultation

A 20-minute phone or video call with Ruth. We ask about your child’s school, subjects, current working grades, targets and how they feel about it all. Your child is welcome to join.

02

Within 3 days

We suggest a tutor

We send you the tutor’s profile, a suggested day and time, and whether online or in person suits best. Nothing is booked until you say yes.

03

Week 1

First session

The tutor spends the first session finding out what your child knows and where the gaps are. No pressure, and no test to revise for.

04

Week 2

A plan for the term

You get a one-page plan: the topics in order, the exam papers we’ll use and what we’d like to see by half term.

05

Every week

Notes and updates

A short note after each session says what was covered and what to practise. Every half term there’s a fuller update, and a call if you’d like one.

Results

What families say, in their own words.

We never promise grades. These are a few of the notes parents have sent us.

Worth every penny

“We were worried about the cost, but the notes after every session showed us exactly what we were paying for. Sophie’s confidence in English is miles better.”

Parent of a Year 11 student

Easy to arrange

“Online sessions at 7pm fit around football and our shifts. Tom did his whole year of A-level maths without us driving anywhere.”

Parent of a Year 13 student

Honest advice

“Priya told us honestly that our son needed another term before the 11+. She was right, and he went into the test calm.”

Parent of a Year 6 student

Nobody gets lost

“The Thursday group is six students, so Leo can’t hide at the back. He actually asks questions now.”

Questions from parents

The things parents ask us most.

?

How do you choose a tutor for my child?

By subject and level first, then by personality and availability. If it doesn’t feel right after a few sessions, we’ll find someone else at no cost.

?

Do you guarantee grades?

No, and we’d be wary of anyone who does. We promise good teaching, a clear plan and honest feedback on how things are going.

?

How much does it cost?

One-to-one is £40 to £55 an hour depending on level, and groups are £18 to £25 a student. Online is £5 an hour less. There’s no joining fee.

?

How do I pay?

We invoice by the half term after the first session. You can pay by bank transfer or card, and you can stop at the end of any half term.

?

What if we need to cancel a session?

Give us 24 hours’ notice and we’ll move it or refund it. Later than that, we charge for the session, unless your child is ill.

?

Are tutors DBS checked?

Yes. Every tutor has an enhanced DBS check, renewed every three years, and two references. Our safeguarding policy is on request.

?

Can I sit in on sessions?

Of course, especially at the start. Online sessions can be recorded if you’d like to watch back or use them for revision.

?

Do you follow my child’s exam board?

Yes. Tell us the board and the tier, and the tutor plans from that specification and its past papers.
